What's Up Wednesday: Winterlong Edition

What's Up Wednesday hails from the blogs of Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk. Join the fun on your own blog and then go to Jaime's to add your link - it's a great way to share what's going on in your life and get to know other bloggers! Here's what's up:

WHAT I'M READING:
I've been reading a lot lately (recap of my Top Ten Reads of 2014 can be found here) and this past week I picked up THE RAVEN BOYS and THE DREAM THIEVES by Maggie Stiefvater at the library. I hadn't been super interested in these books because I wasn't a fan of SHIVER, but I decided to see what all the fuss was about. Gansey, Gansey, Gansey - it's all I've been hearing for the last couple of years.

Well, yes, Gansey. I loved THE RAVEN BOYS and I'm enjoying THE DREAM THIEVES so far. In fact, I'd like to be reading it right now.

WHAT I'M WRITING:
The last couple of months have been very productive on the writing front. I got notes back from CPs and readers on KEYS this past weekend. I printed that sucker and mailed it off to my agent yesterday. I'm also working on a revision of BEAUTIFUL BIRD, SING ON, my NaNo book from 2012, and I love it. I'm happy to be back in Addie's world.

WHAT WORKS FOR ME:
Giving myself a break. I've been working pretty steadily for the last three months; even though I've had some health issues, I've been writing almost every day. However, once in a while I'll take the night off and do something fun with my kids and/or husband, do some life maintenance, or go to bed early and read.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
Winter. Using my SAD light, trying not to be so dang tired. Going going going like a maniac until I crash and sleep for 10 hours. Work - we're incredibly busy, which is unusual for this time of year. Christmas stuff with the kids - we saw Santa on Sunday and they had their Christmas program at church. Birdy donated her hair to Locks of Love on Saturday and immediately reported that she's growing it out to donate again. Mine will go in February.

What's up with you? How are you surviving the winter where you are?

  1. I'm just starting Blue Lily, Lily Blue--I'm on page 7, I think. I hope you enjoy them. I really like the lyrical way she writes, but I'm not super attached to Gansey. I wish I was.

Congratulations on mailing Keys off to your agent! That's definitely something to celebrate! Have a wonderful week!

  2. Congrats on sending off your ms to your agent!! Hope you are celebrating that and diving back into your NaNo book (w/that great title!). I didn't love The Raven Boys…ironically I LOOOOOOVE The Shiver series. lol! too funny. I think I might try again with Raven Boys when the 4th book comes out so I can read them all back to back. :-) Have a great week, Sara!!!

  5. I really want to read Raven Boys but I'm trying to focus on books I have in my possession currently. Such a problem to have :) I love that your daughter donated to locks of love, that's so special.

  6. Sounds like you have been super busy! Hope things slow down a tiny bit for you. :-) I love that Birdy donated her hair. I wanted to do that the last time I grew my hair out, but because it was layered, parts of it were a bit too short. I may consider doing it sometime, though. I love the Raven Cycle, but for whatever reason, I haven't started reading my copy of BLUE LILY, LILY BLUE yet. Maybe in the new year? Have a great week, Sara!

  7. I loved The Raven Boys and The Dream Thieves, but I was a little less enamored by BL,LB. I think it was my mood more than anything. No matter what, I'm a fan of Stiefvater. And Gansey!
Sounds like you're busy, hope you have a slightly less busy week! ;)

  8. Shiver is the only Steifvater book I have tried, so I definitely should check out Raven Boys...

  9. Glad to hear you liked The Raven Boys! As a fellow sufferer of SAD, I feel your pain. I rely on my light box and suffer headaches all the time in winter - not fun. Have a great week! :)

  10. Good job on both your projects! I'm also reworking an old NaNo project right now, and it's weird to look back on what I wrote years ago.
