Monday Motivation: NaNo Love List

Hello, NaNoTude friends!

We're a few days into National Novel Writing Month and I'm happy to report that things are going well with this new manuscript (but not so much with housework and laundry.  Oh well.)  The difference between this year and my previous two NaNos has been amazing.  I have not "plotted" and I'm writing by the seat of my pants, but to have a general idea of what's going on and most importantly, how it ends -- wow.

The manuscript is at about 11,000 words and there's already so much I love about it.  In fact, I already love it so much, I'm going to create a love list RIGHT NOW:

Old pianos
Vintage clothing
Antique stores
Movies from the 1940s
Cary Grant
Katharine Hepburn
1979 penny (extra points if you know what movie that's a nod to)
Navy pea coats
Long-time crushes
Logic and imagination
8-track tapes
Moments of clarity

Today why not write a love list for your current WiP, whether you're participating in NaNo or not?  Sometimes all it takes is a little reminder like this for us to fall in love with our works and our characters all over again.

How's your NaNoTude this week?

  1. Oh I love this idea! I think I may just put one together. I love your love list, by the way. This sounds like quite a lovely read.

  2. I LOVE this idea, Sara!!!!! I'm participating in Nano but I'm only using it as a push to finish my revisions/rewrites. :) Hopefully it works! On my love list, though, is the fact that the main character is more relatable, has a stronger voice, is more of an artist and is just going to rock this whole novel. :)
I also updated my blog & would love if you could check it out. Thanks !

    1. Looks like you're doing really well on your revisions - way to go! I think it's awesome that you've been able to take the idea of NaNo and make it work for you. :) I love the revision process.

  3. Love it, Sara! I might have to borrow this too. :) I like that not only are we all pounding out thousands of words for NaNo, but that we're loving the stories that come from them. 50,000 blah words doesn't motivate me. But 50,000 words of a story that I love? Now that I can get behind. :)

    1. I know! 50k of love is a beautiful thing. We rock.

  4. Wait, you're writing a story and you actually know how it ends?! You'll have to teach me your magic tricks! And I'm so off to write a love list for my WIP now :)

    1. Ha ha, if only I knew the magic tricks! I don't. I'm just going with it on this. :)

  5. I'm glad NaNo is going so well for you. :)

  6. The Love List thing is a great idea. I am doing Nano, and it's going well, despite how busy I am, catching up from no power during Hurricane Sandy.

    1. Glad NaNo is going well for you. Good luck with the post-Sandy catch-up!
