An excerpt from “The Sway”
Another memory comes to her. While she played the piano in the atrium at Hawthorn Place, a boy leaned on the wrought iron railing on the landing at the top of the stairs, watching her. Tall, dressed in black head to toe, dark curls.
“You’re early,” he said. Nothing more.
“I’m sorry,” she said, confused, her heart pounding. “Your mother said I could play.”
Now, her heart pounds just as forcefully. You’re early. The glass slips from her hand and shatters.
She has to go back to Hawthorn Place.

Praise for “The Sway”
“I really enjoyed ‘The Sway’ by Sara Biren. Adelaide feels ‘a shifting, a surge, a swell of the sea,’ but she’s not on the ocean. It’s much more intriguing than that. Biren manages to combine time slip, romance, and the paranormal. Great story.”
