True Love: A NaNo Update

“A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”
Maya Angelou

It seems like lately I've frequently mentioned the chaos and busy-ness of life.  I'm not exaggerating, however, when I say that this week was particularly brutal in terms of being over-scheduled.

We spent last weekend in Wisconsin.  The kids stayed with HG's parents on Saturday and we headed out for a River Road Wine Tasting Adventure.  We also found a fantastic little turn-of-the-century Irish public house with amazing fish and chips and delicious beer.  We spent the night at the Historic Trempealeau Hotel and saw a blues band there.  It was so nice to get away, even for just 24 hours.  And the kids had a great time with the family.

We returned Sunday night to face a whirlwind week.  I served as an election judge on Tuesday so was at City Hall from 6 am to 11:30 pm with only about 15 minutes of down time the whole day.  I'm proud of my city for such a great turnout.  Last night, right on top of an event for work, I volunteered at my son's school for their Book Fair -- one of my favorite days of the year!

There are piles of mail and homework and books and the remains of Halloween everywhere.  I know I have kitchen counters somewhere.  I can't even walk barefoot in my kitchen and dining room because the floor is so sticky. I'm excited for the weekend because I'll have time for both cleaning and writing (wait.  That sounds really pathetic).  I've got a NaNo Write-In planned and I'd like to get past the mid-point of the manuscript by Sunday night.

Every night I've got a date with T.B. Player or The Chad (our laptops) and BEAUTIFUL BIRD, SING ON.  It's true love and together we've reached 15,744 words.  It's been fun to write with all its unexpected twists and moments of inspiration.   It's going to need a lot of revision, but it's taking shape and it's got promise. And I'm so happy to hear so many of my writing pals say that they are loving their manuscripts this go round.

What are your plans for the weekend?
