RTW: Worth the Wait
Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's
contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question to write
about on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination
and get everybody's unique take on the topic.
This week's topic: What was the best book you read in October?
October was a whirlwind of chaos and activities and writing. I read only three books and one of those was a re-read. So choosing my best book of October was simple.
Regular readers of this blog will know that I’ve
been freaking excited for the release of SAPPHIRE BLUE, sequel to RUBY RED by
Kerstin Gier.
I had pre-ordered the nook book and read it the
day it came out, October 30. Could .
Not. Put. It. Down.
Jaime and I had exchanged a few tweets and
comments of enthusiasm and impatience over the previous week. Here’s a snippet of an email I sent right
after I finished:
“Can I just say my heart has been RIPPED out. You know how people say they feel ALL the emotions? That is me, right now, sitting at my desk at work. I physically feel ALL the emotions. I can't wait to read it again tonight. Oh Gideon....”
First of all, I
love Gwyneth, the spunky MC who has recently discovered that she carries
the family’s time traveling gene. And I
absolutely adore Gideon -- her cool, sophisticated time traveling partner -- and
their off-balance relationship. That boy
is full of surprises – and so is Gwyneth, for that matter. There’s a snotty, perfect cousin, and a loyal
bff, and humorous gargoyle. It’s a
quick-paced story with that fascinating time travel element I love so much and
a bit of a mystery, too.
And – oh, that
moment when Gwyneth – wait a minute. I’m
not going to say.
And – oh, that
moment when my heart was RIPPED from my chest – I had to read that section
again and again.
I’ve heard a few
people say that they just couldn’t get into RUBY RED, and a few more say that
they were so glad they stuck with it.
People! Stick with
it! SAPPHIRE BLUE is fantastic. And I’m
dying to know what happens in EMERALD GREEN.
How long do I have to wait?
As
you can see, I'm really digging the time travel books lately, although I
have to say I was a bit disappointed with TIME BETWEEN US. I'd love to
hear your time travel book recs, please!
What book was your
October favorite?
